Björn Säfsten

    Focusing on the examination of movement as an ambivalent language, constructing methods for each new artistic endeavour, Björn Säfsten, choreographer and dancer, shines new light on the human body in a context of movement. In constant search for a method, he uses limitations as a portal to examine his own artistic inheritance and to comment on the discourses that he works within.

    His body of work include commission works for Skånes Dansteater and the Cullberg Ballet as well as over 10 original creation produced and created for his own shifting ensemble. The piece “In trembling space” gave him first prize in the choreographic competition at Dansens Hus in Stockholm 2007 and in 2009 Björn Säfsten was awarded the Cullberg price.

    In October he opened ”Display”, part 1 of the series ”Attending Presence”. He is currently preparing for his new production ”Introduction” (part 2 of ”Attending Presence”) which opens at NorrlandsOperan in september 2012. In addition the piece ”Corduroy De-Constructed” for alternative spaces and arthalls is available and a large, full-scale work for 8 dancers, ”Fictional copies” in in preparation for 2014.
